Having watched the "judge" shows
for many years, I thought a little
information might be interesting.

Even though the cases are actually
real, everybody wins if you show
up on the show.

The producers have a fund
available so that the loser of the
case does not have to pay any out
of pocket money.

If there is anything left out of the
fund after paying the winner of the
case, it is divided up between the
plaintiff and the defendant.

My favorites are
Judge Judy and
Judge Joe Brown. You can learn a
lot about the law concerning Small
Claims cases from watching the
shows, which makes it not only fun,
but also educational.

One day I was playing poker at the
Commerce Casino in Los Angeles
CA and was watching one of the
many TV's they have hanging
everywhere for sporting events, but
this was in the morning and the
People's Court was on.

To everybody's surprise at the
table, one of the dealers at the card
club that was dealing at our table at
that exact moment appeared as the
defendant on the TV.

Talk about being embarrassed. He
had borrowed some money from a
customer at the card club and the
customer was suing him to get his
money back.

He lost the case and Judge Judy
gave him a tongue lashing.

Consumer Law Center has been
helping consumers resolve
troubles with their lemon vehicles
over the past decade.

Founded in 1995, Krohn & Moss,
Ltd. have concentrated in fraud
claims such as odometer rollbacks,
auto dealer financing scams and
vehicle history misrepresentations.

In 2003, the FDCPA (Fair Debt
Collection Practices Act) violations
became an additional focus of the
firm in it's efforts to assist
victimized consumers with credit
reporting and debt collection
issues.

They have over 11 years of
experience and have helped over
25,000 clients litigate cases which
have had a profound impact on
consumer protection law.

The best thing about this company
is that 99% of the cases never go to
trial and
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY
ANYTHING!

I should bring to your attention that
they do obtain payment through a
percentage of your judgment from
the manufacture or defendant that
they bring suit against.

Also, you
may be responsible for
court costs and you should read
the disclaimer on the site for full
details.

People-to-people lending. It's an
old idea that's new again.
Prosper
is a community website that is
gaining popularity as an alternative
to borrowing money from the usual
places.

People who need money request it,
and other people bid for the
privilege of lending it to them.
Prosper makes sure everything is
safe, fair and easy.

It works like an auction. Example:
Lisa needs a small loan so she
posts a listing for a loan with the
amount she needs at a rate she can
afford.

When the listing ends, the bids with
the lowest rates are combined into
a single 3-year loan for Lisa.

This is what it was like when people
formed credit communities to help
themselves live better lives and
earn a fair return on their money.

The founding principle is that
people from close communities act
more responsibly towards each
other.

Borrowers can request 3-year,
unsecured, fully amortized loans
up to $25,000. There are no early
payment penalties.

Prosper has a 100% Identity Theft
Guarantee in place to protect
borrowers and lenders from
identity thieves.

Worthpoint.com have organized
the world's information on
collectibles into a central library or
"worth" database which they call
the Worthopedia.

You have to register to access
certain areas of the website, (It took
me about 60 seconds to register),
which was well worth the time.

The main guy has over 40 years in
the antiques and auctions
industries and has assembled a
team of experts who share their
views on collecting via blogs.

I believe we have all come across
something that seems like a
collectible and have wondered how
much it's worth. Now you have an
easy place to determine it's value
without having to go to the
Antiques Roadshow.

To find the price on an item you
have for free you can search their
database or ask the community
members for help.

For a small fee of $2.95 you can ask
one of their experts for a valuation.
You need Java to see this applet.
