The Best Consumer Help Website in the World
Sweepstakes, Prizes & Lotteries

It's illegal for a company to require you to buy something or pay a fee in order to win or claim a
prize. It's also illegal for a company to even suggest that your chances will be better if you make a
purchase. The company will then ask for your bank account information, credit card number or
social security number. Never fall for this scam to try to get your personal information.

Be warned that these companies will send you an advance check on your "supposed winnings"
and will ask you to deposit it into your bank account and take a certain amount of "cash back" to
send back to them by money order, western union or moneygram.

They tell you this is the only "legal way" to pay the tax or whatever. If you deposit that check you
will be responsible when it comes back "bad" and believe me it will. Almost all prize notifications
are scams. Don't be a sucker.

Be informed by visiting our site often and "get the truth" about all these scams and ripoff schemes
to get your money.

Advance Fee Loans, Credit Service & Credit Card Offers

NEVER deposit a check you didn't expect to get since you'll be responsible for it if it bounces.
It's against the law for telemarketers to charge any fees in advance if they claim that it's likely that
they can help you get a loan. If you have poor credit or haven't established a good credit record
yet, it's unlikely that anyone will lend you any money.

It isn't necessary to pay another company to help you get a credit card, nor will it improve your
chances of obtaining one. It's illegal to charge for a credit card before you receive it, and if they say
you qualified, but they need your social security number, it's a possible scam.

Federal law requires credit repair services to give you an explanation of your legal rights, a
detailed written contract, and three days to cancel (this applies to
for-profit services, not to
nonprofit organizations, banks and credit unions, or the creditors themselves).

You can get a free credit report from the 3 major credit bureaus once a year at
www.annualcreditreport.com. To get your FICO score you will have to pay an extra fee. You are
under no obligation to pay for any extras that may be offered to you. Immediately dispute anything
you know is not correct.
Government Grants

The government doesn't telephone people or send unsolicited letters or email's to offer grants. If
someone offers you one, they're trying to steal your money and/or your identity.

Legitimate government grants never require fees of any kind.

They require an application process initiated only by you, and they're never guaranteed.
Government grants are for very specific purposes, like studying whales in Alaska, not just
because you're a good citizen.

The advertisements on TV or infomercials are major RIPOFFS!  They will try to sell you lists, books,
or try to get you to attend a seminar to sell you information regarding grants that are FREE! Get
more information by visiting our comprehensive
links page.

The Better Business Bureau

I had to put this on my fraud alert page to spread my opinion on the BBB everywhere possible. I
believe the BBB is nothing more than a legal extortion ring against businesses.

For consumers, by filing a complaint (the form is a pain) it makes them feel as if they just did
something that will get them results with a company by forcing the company into resolving the
consumers issue. Good luck!  The BBB will only send a letter to the company to hear their side of
the story.

The BBB's main business is trying to extort money from businesses so they can either get a little
plaque to hang in their business or a listing online stating they are a member. Yes, they do keep a
database of complaints but so what.  Is that going to solve your issue or get you a refund? This is
why most businesses could care less if you threaten to file a complaint with the BBB.

The popularity of the BBB name and it's wide conception as the consumer
"Holy Grail" of
complaint filing makes the BBB one of the greatest marketing ripoffs ever created. Somebody is
getting rich there with all the government money they receive.
